Hi,
Are lumps in the breast that are cancerous usually sore? (with no fever, no nipple discharege, etc.)
Thanks,

No they are not USUALLY sore. That said, being sore does not mean that a lump is not cancer just because it is sore. Any new lump should be evaluated like it is a malignancy in order to be safe. That means a diagnostic mammogram and an ultrasound as a minimum done and read by a clinical breast radiologist.

i'm 24 years old and i have redness and swelling on my right nipple. i don't have any children, i'm not preganant so what could cause this problem?

Redness and swelling of the nipple can be due to infection. The infection can be in the skin of the nipple (cellulitis), in the breast tissue (mastitis), or walled off beneath the nipple in an abscess, even if you are not pregnant or nursing.
Despite your young age, I would also be concerned about possible cancer, although it would be unlikely. For this reason, I would strongly urge you to seek medical attention promptly. Also, delay in treating an infection can lead to more complications.

05-07-2007 - Dear Perla, The only way to be sure what the lump in your left breast and swelling is in your armpit is to have an examination at a breast center. A physical exam would be performed and appropriate imaging tests to evaluate these areas.

05-07-2007 - Dear Kathy, Your oncologist should be monitoring your therapy. Yes, you are correct. It is recommended to stop the tamoxifen after 5 years. Tamoxifen does make menopausal symptoms worse. You should start feeling better after you stop the medication.
