Calluses are generally felt to be secondary from abnormal pressure in an area. Cryosurgery is usually not effective for this because it does not address the causative factor. Sometimes pressure relief can help a callus. This can be in the form of inserts or other type of alteration of pressure points on the foot.

Certainly as your skin has had multiple inflammatory episodes it will have received damage which will result in slower healing and more difficult healing. Also, there is an age factor. As the skin ages, it does not heal as well. I would recommend having a consultation with somebody to come up with an effective treatment regimen to minimize your lesions which will result in less spots that need to heal.

Generally, we would stop your treatment for several days until your skin recovered. However, all people do not use Efudex the same way. It is also very possible that your 9-days of therapy were adequate to take care of your problem. However, I would recommend you check with your prescribing physician regarding their handling of this issue.

The FDA has removed over-the-counter products that treat this; therefore, unfortunately most products are now prescription. The mainstay of therapy is hydroquinone at 4% for the treatment of this.
